Aloe Blacc Covers Bob Dylan For ‘Saturday Sessions’

143

Aloe Blacc performed a handful of songs for this past Saturday’s installment of Saturday Sessions on CBS This Morning. Blacc led his band through a cover of Bob Dylan’s “Blowin’ In The Wind” in addition to performing a pair of originals.

Bob Dylan originally wrote “Blowin’ In The Wind” in 1962 and released the song on his 1963 studio album, The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan. Aloe Blacc explained why he was performing the song before he teamed with his band for a rendition of “Blowin’ In The Wind” that featured the same drum line as Paul Simon’s “50 Ways To Leave Your Lover.” Read what Blacc said at the start of the cover:

One of my favorite artists of all-time is Sam Cooke, who was a singer, songwriter and a businessman. One of his most famous songs is called ‘A Change Is Gonna Come’ and he’s noted as saying it was inspired by Bob Dylan’s ‘Blowin’ In The Wind.’ He thought that it was the perfect sentiment for the civil rights movement and it should have been written by a Black man. He endeavored something as powerful. So, because I’m inspired by Sam Cooke and he was inspired by Bob Dylan today I’m going to sing ‘Blowin’ In The Wind.’
