Phish ‘Dinner And A Movie’ Episode 23: Dick’s Labor Day Triple Feature & Three Unique Meals

162

Phish has announced episode 23 of the band’s weekly Dinner and a Movie webcast/cooking series. This coming week will operate a bit differently as Phish strays away from the usual Tuesday night airings. Instead, the band will stream three separate shows from past runs at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, CO this coming Friday (9/4), Saturday (9/5), and Sunday (9/6).

For night one of the Labor Day triple feature, Phish will revisit their Dick’s performance from September 1st, 2017, before Saturday’s stream takes fans back to September 1st, 2012. Finally, night three will stream the monstrous September 6th, 2015 Sunday show, which featured several bust-outs, including “The Landlady” and “Keyboard Army”, as well as the THANK YOU “Harpua” encore.

Furthermore, as has been the case with all other Dinner and a Movie episodes, Phish has picked a non-profit to benefit during the streams. This week’s webcast will benefit The Mockingbird Foundation. According to the band’s Instagram post announcing the show,

The Mockingbird foundation is… a non-profit organization dedicated to improving access to music education for America’s youth… The Mockingbird Foundation has no salaries, paid staff, office space, or endowment — thus distributing all possible funds to charity. The Foundation’s primary purpose is charitable, with more than $1.6M in grants to 450 grantees covering all 50 states.

For the dinner portion of the streams, the band has enlisted three groups of chefs. Night one will feature “The Wedge” salad, a red pepper pan pizza, and spiced zucchini cake from Mark Welker and Mike Pyers. Night two will see a mizuna salad with a coconut dressing, grilled eggplant, and a mango clafoutis courtesy of Doug Rankin, while Chef Molly Nickerson offers a whole grilled fish, pan roasted fingerling potatoes, burrata salad with grilled romano beans, and bicerin for night three. Click here to view the full recipes and check out the detailed setlists of the shows below.

The next episode of Dinner and A Movie will not be taking place next Tuesday. But good news: we’re excited to announce a triple-feature over Labor Day weekend, three nights of archival shows from Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, CO to commemorate Phish’s end-of-summer celebrations. Next Friday, we’ll air Phish’s set from 9/1/17. On Saturday, we’ll air 9/1/12. And then on Sunday, on the show’s 5-year anniversary, we’ll air 9/6/15. For the dinner component of this Dicks-pectacular, we’ll be offering recipes each night from some of the best chefs in the country. Beyond being known for their incredible talent and innovation, these three chefs have something else in common: they’re all Phish fans. On Friday, Mark Welker and Mike Pyers (the executive pastry chef and culinary director at Eleven Madison Park, respectively) bring us “The Wedge” salad, a red pepper pan pizza and a spiced zucchini cake. On Saturday, Doug Rankin (executive chef of Los Angeles’ Bar Restaurant) offers up a mizuna salad with a (shake your) coconut dressing, grilled eggplant, and a mango clafoutis. And for the Sunday finale, Chef Molly Nickerson (executive chef at Marea) provides a recipe for a whole grilled fish (with a grilled portobello mushroom as a veg alternative) with pan roasted fingerling potatoes, burrata salad with grilled romano beans, and bicerin (chocolate pudding with whipped cream). These recipes may seem a tad ambitious, but don’t let that throw you — we’ve seen what many of you have been cooking and know you’re up to the task! All of the recipes can be found at link in profile. Pro tip: if you plan to cook with us next week, give yourself a few days in advance to look through the recipes as some of them involve some prep the day before. As always, tag your food photos at #phishdinnerandamovie. The beneficiary for the full weekend is The Mockingbird Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving access to music education for America’s youth. Each year, the Foundation awards grants to dozens of music education programs, and funds those grants through a combination of fundraising, publishing, and the curation of Phish.net.
