Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine played a cover of Bill Withers‘ “Ain’t No Sunshine” during a recent appearance on The Howard Stern Show. Levine also spoke about collaborating with Withers for Maroon 5’s 2006 version of “Lovely Day.”
“I cried when he passed. I had this incredible connection with him,” Levine said of his reaction to the news Withers’ died at age 81 earlier this year. He discussed the experience of recording the reworked “Lovely Day” and how he spent hours talking to Bill Withers. “He was a salt of the earth human being,” Adam added.
Bill Withers originally released “Ain’t No Sunshine” on his 1971 studio album, Just As I Am. Watch Adam Levine present his version of the song below:
