Dopapod shared a collection of early demos on Friday, fittingly titled Some Demos. The 15-track offering was shared via Bandcamp on one of the platform’s increasingly-frequent days where it forgoes its fees to give 100 percent of proceeds to artists. On top of that, the band has included a “Name Your Price” option with no minimum amount required.
The songs on Some Demos range from the jamtronic hybrid group’s latest album, 2019’s Emit Time, all the way back to Dopapod’s sophomore offering Drawn Onward from 2012. Last month, Dopapod released the Quarantine Sessions on Bandcamp, featuring three songs culled from the band’s virtual performances for Quarantine Comes Alive and the Suwanee at Home: Spirit Raiser virtual event.
As promised, Some Demos offers early glimpses of many Dopapod classics that fans know and love today. Most of the tracks come without lyrics, but that shouldn’t be too much of a letdown to the group’s many jam-loving fans.
As keyboardist Eli Winderman noted in a post to the Dopapod Facebook fan group DopaFam, these demos were primarily sent from him to Rob Compa, Chuck Jones, and Neal “Fro” Evans as early drafts, so most them are keyboard-centric with drum tracks. That’s not to say the other members aren’t present throughout Some Demos, as Compa’s isolated vocals are found on “Live in the Dream (Demo)” and “Like A Ball (Demo)”, among other examples.
Winderman said of the collection,
Here’s a little special something for you. It’s a collection of demos from over the years, aptly titled ‘Some Demos’. These are the tracks I sent to Rob, Chuck, and Neal before we started to learn and rehearse the songs. You can hear how much some of them changed once everyone gave their input and influence. Many of these were written in the van on my laptop as we traveled between shows.
