Earlier this year reports emerged of a possible AC/DC reunion with the lone remaining original member in guitarist Angus Young to possibly be joined once again by singer Brian Johnson (who retired in 2016 due to hearing loss and was replaced by Axl Rose), bassist Cliff Williams (who also retired from performing in 2016 following the final show of a world tour), and even longtime drummer Phil Rudd, who never quite retired but was replaced in 2015 following serious legal issues. The report rumored that the famous hard rock band was planning to reunite for at least one final studio album and even a run of shows in some capacity, even if they weren’t a full-fledged world tour.

The classic rock saga took a surprising turn last week when a Brazilian AC/DC fansite noticed the band had updated their official website with new photos of Johnson, Rudd, Williams, and Angus alongside Stevie Young– Angus’ nephew who permanently replaced his late brother/co-founding guitarist Malcolm Young beginning in 2014. At the moment it’s not clear if the members had come together to shoot a video or just capture some promotional photos, and the content was quickly taken down from the band’s website–but not before screenshots of the reunion were shared online. The site also claims that the band photoshoot took place in the Netherlands earlier this year, possibly prior to the shutdown of major international travel in March.

The excellent detective work adds to the claims made by 1980s glam-rock singer Dee Snider (Twisted Sister) who was quoted back in the summer saying AC/DC’s comeback album “Has been delayed” due to COVID-19, but noted the project “Has been recorded.”

“This is gonna be a miracle of technology,” Snider added. “What will be achieved, the reuniting of the band that we know for one more album, is gonna be uplifting and heartbreaking at the same time. Because nothing goes on forever. But this is the ultimate ‘one more time.’”

AC/DC and their global legion of fans will have to wait just a little bit longer for some reunion performances with the ongoing pause of major live events across the world. But it’s worth remembering, however, that Johnson was at least healthy enough to sit-in during a Bad Company performance in 2017. As for a comeback album, that could be announced anytime, but likely the band will want to wait until fans can gather together en masse again before they launch their comeback/farewell reunion, possibly by next year.
