Mastodon guitarist Brent Hinds was among the Marcus King Trio’s guests on Saturday night at a drive-in concert in Kodak, Tennessee. The socially distant show took place at Smokies Stadium’s parking lot and also featured singer-songwriter Early James sitting-in with King.
Hinds’ appearance came at the end of the show during the encore, which began with a cover of ZZ Top’s “ThunderBird.” James was also part of the encore, coming out for a subsequent cover of Johnny Cash’s “Folsom Prison Blues.” King and his guests then ended the night with Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs.”
Earlier in the evening, the trio of King on guitar, Stephen Campbell on bass and Jack Ryan on drums, were accompanied by James on a cover of Waylon Jennings’ “Good-Hearted Woman” as well as “Too Much Whiskey” off King’s solo album El Dorado.
Six songs into the show, following “Booty Stank,” the performance was halted while the promotor took the stage to remind the audience to adhere to social distancing guidelines. King and the trio then picked back up with “Red Door Blues.”
