My Morning Jacket has announced the release of a limited-edition 7″ single, entitled “Bring The Power Back Home”. The Tuesday announcement coincides with National Voter Registration Day, as potential voters across the country are urged to check their status.

MMJ frontman Jim James is one of many musicians participating in a national registration awareness campaign organized by non-partisan group HeadCount. Throughout the course of Tuesday, September 22nd, artists from across the musical spectrum will use their voices to prompt fans to enter the political discussion this coming election.

The single, which is not available on any digital platforms, is limited to only 2,020 copies and is purchasable through the band’s webstore. “Bring The Power Back Home” is a new composition from the group, their first since the release of The Waterfall II this past summer. On the front side of the single is the original cut of the song, while the B-side features an acoustic rendition of the same tune.

“‘Bring The Power Back Home’ is about taking control of your own destiny, reclaiming one’s personal power in an effort to bring positive change back to our lives, even if it seems that the good in the world is slipping out of our grasp,” James said in a statement. “Positive change and progress is still possible. One of the best ways we can reclaim and use our power for good right now is to VOTE like our lives depend on it, because they do.”

All proceeds from the 7″ single will go to benefit the non-profit voting rights organization Fair Fight. Head over to the official My Morning Jacket webstore to order “Bring The Power Back Home” for either $10, $15, or $20 in a pay-what-you-can system.
