Aussie electronic duo The Avalanches have managed to keep pretty busy this year despite a global pandemic. They’ve released a steady string of singles, from the Blood Orange-featuring ‘We Will Always Love You’ in February to ‘Running Red Lights’ with Rivers Cuomo and Pink Siifu in March.
Back in July, they simultaneously dropped ‘Wherever You Go’ (featuring Jamie xx, Neneh Cherry and CLYPSO) and ‘Reflecting Light’ with Sananda Maitreya and Vashti Bunyan. Last month, they teamed up with none other than the International Space Orchestra for a cosmic, remote collaborative performance of ‘Wherever You Go’.
Now, we’ve learned what all that’s been leading up to – the band’s third studio album, We Will Always Love You. While a release date has not yet been announced for the follow-up to 2016’s Wildflower, the band have shared its artwork, designed by Jonathan Zawada.
In addition to sharing the artwork, The Avalanches added that the record’s sleeve features an image of Ann Druyan, creative director of the Voyager Golden Record Project, whose “cosmic love story” the band say inspired the album.
“In keeping with the album’s theme of everlasting love as an undying vibration, Ann’s image was run through a spectograph, turned into sound, and back again,” read a statement from the band. “The image remains hidden, deep within in the grooves of the music, for you to discover if you wish.”
Check out the artwork for We Will Always Love You below. According to the band, pre-orders will be available next week.
