Bandcamp Friday, October 2nd: String Cheese Incident, My Morning Jacket, Jason Isbell, Hiss Golden Messenger & More

123

In March, Bandcamp waived its revenue share from sales for 24 hours on its site in order to support artists and labels adversely impacted by the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic. Bandcamp waived its fees again on the first Friday in May, as well as on the first Friday of each month since, sending over $75 million from the sales of music and merch directly to musicians. Bandcamp Friday will continue for the rest of 2020.

Several musicians shared new releases exclusively for today’s Bandcamp Fridays installment. Here’s a look at some of the new music out today that can be purchased on Bandcamp:

The String Cheese Incident

The String Cheese Incident dropped three classic early-era shows. The trio of On The Road series releases includes one show from 1998 and two recordings from 2001.

Hiss Golden Messenger

Hiss Golden Messenger‘s School Daze: A fundraiser for Durham Public Schools benefits the Durham Public Schools Foundation’s Accelerating Digital Equity. The 15-track live release was recorded at a “handful of shows on Hiss Golden Messenger’s late-2019 tour supporting Terms of Surrender. Durham, North Carolina resident and Hiss founder M.C. Taylor stated:

I say this often from the stage: I have public education in my blood. Both of my parents, my sister, and my wife are all public educators. My kids go to public schools in Durham. My entire life, I’ve watched the ways that public education has changed the lives of the people involved with it, both students and teachers. It’s safe to say that I wouldn’t do what I do now without the love and support of public schoolteachers. So I feel it’s my duty to give back.

Woods

Woods released Reflections Vol. 1 (Bumble Bee Crown King), consisting of eight rare and unreleased recordings spanning 2009 to 2013. “With no touring this year, and possibly next, we decided to take a deep dive into our archives and put together the first volume of our much discussed archival series, Reflections,” the band stated. “Featuring rare and unreleased recordings from 2009 – 2013, including a ghost town desert jam off the side of the highway, our first live performance in Big Sur, the first recorded version of ‘Bend Beyond’ and some shelved diamonds in the rough that were finished up during quarantine. Our hope is that it plays like a ‘lost record’ from an extremely strange and fruitful period in Woods history.”
