On Saturday, October 3rd, Nashville-based singer-songwriter Maggie Rose took part in Democracy Comes Alive, a one-day, nonpartisan virtual music festival aimed at channeling the power of music to make a critical impact on civic engagement in this November’s elections and beyond. For her virtual appearance on the all-day fundraising event, Rose and her talented backing band, Them Vibes, delivered a three-song performance that included “20/20”, “Only Human (I Wanna Get Out)”, and “Help Myself ” from an ambient-lit studio setting.
The 14-minute performance opened with the two new original singles that comprised her recently-released Quarantine 45, written, recorded, and produced in quarantine. The first, “20/20”, is a candid, gut-wrenching ballad that directly deals with the multi-layered turmoil of this strange year. The second, “Only Human (I Wanna Get Out)”, feels like a different side of the 2020 coin, its catchy shuffle matching the paces we’ve all been doing around our living rooms these last few months.
The third and final song, anthemic rocker “Help Myself”, saw its “live” debut back in the spring as part of Live For Live Music‘s first virtual music festival, Quarantine Comes Alive, and felt like an old friend by the time it closed her performance at Democracy Comes Alive.

I had the chance to play my new music released in and inspired by this crazy year, joining a lineup of fantastic artists who all agree that we should exercise our right to vote in this upcoming election. YOUR engagement in this event helped L4LM and HeadCount raise $40,000 which will help mobilize voters and provide accessible registration tools to ensure that everyone’s voice is heard!”

Maggie Rose joined 50+ performers and 10+ other speakers as part of Democracy Comes Alive, presented by Live For Live Music in partnership with voter registration nonprofit HeadCount. The 10-hour streaming event, powered by Nugs.TV and Plus 1, generated $40,000 and counting in funds for HeadCount as well as the participating artists, who remain out of work as the pandemic continues.
