Phish & Bob Weir Perform Together On Fall Tour 2000

This year marks 25 years since Phish’s historic Fall Tour 1995. In recognition of that noteworthy tour and to make up for the lack of shows this fall, JamBase presents a daily retrospective highlighting a noteworthy moment from a Phish fall tour concert that took place on that date over the past 25 years. The 25 Years Of Phish Fall Tour series runs each day between the start of Phish Fall Tour 1995 on September 27 through that tour’s finale on December 17.

Phish welcomed Bob Weir to share the stage for a three-song encore on this date during Phish’s Fall Tour 2000. The collaboration at Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California was the first of two for the acts, who also joined forces at Nashville’s Ascend Amphitheater on October 18, 2016.

Weir’s guest spot came at the penultimate show of the tour, the first of two nights at Shoreline. The band began an “indefinite hiatus” after the tour that wound up concluding with the band’s New Year’s Eve concert at Madison Square Garden in New York City on December 31, 2002.

Phish Debuts ‘Guy Forget’ On Fall Tour 2000

Phish bookended their first set at Shoreline on October 6, 2000 with a “Carini” opener and “Run Like An Antelope” closer. Covers of Stevie Wonder’s “Boogie On Reggae Woman” and Bob Marley’s “Mellow Mood” were played within the frame as were originals “Maze” and “The Moma Dance.” The quartet’s second set was highlighted by a stellar pairing of “Cities” and “Sand” along with a “Down With Disease” that gave way to just the second version of “Spock’s Brain” since 1995.

The Grateful Dead guitarist emerged with Phish at the start of their encore. Weir’s first ever collaboration with Phish began with a cover of Marty Robbins’ “El Paso,” a staple of Grateful Dead live performances. Next up was an unusual selection as Bobby did his best to keep up and add to the Phish original “Chalk Dust Torture.” The evening and guest spot ended with a Bob Weir-led rendition of the Garcia/Hunter gem “West L.A. Fadeaway.”
