PREMIERE: Miami Horror Share Remix Of Beloved Kimbra Collab ‘I Look To You’

93

You may want to sit down to hear this – Miami Horror‘s debut album Illumination is 10 years old this year. The Aussie dance-punk gem arrived in August of 2010, full of shimmery synths and indie disco-ready beats.

To celebrate Illumination hitting the double-digits, the band will release a 10th-anniversary edition of the record in March via Nettwerk Records. The expanded edition will include twelve remixes, four B-sides, and a 25-minute trip through the record titled “Lucid Stream”.

“The album was made during this crossover in my life where I got to see something come to fruition,” explains frontman Ben Plant, who began work on Illumination back when he was a teenager in Melbourne.

“I was in the imaginative period where you don’t have the burdens of adulthood yet. The music focuses on the wonder of the adventure itself. I had started to rekindle that feeling before the re-release. Everything was coming full circle, and it felt like the perfect moment to reintroduce this.”

“It was a chance for us to come back and celebrate the album in a way we didn’t get to at the time it was released because everything was so crazy,” Plant adds. “We never really got the chance to enjoy it. It’s a bit sentimental. We’re celebrating the atmosphere of what existed in music before streaming and social media. We got back to purely creating.”

Today, we’re premiering a remix of the album’s beloved Kimbra collab, ‘I Look to You’, courtesy of London duo Franc Moody. It’s a far more sparse, spacious interpretation than the original, relying largely on its future-funk bassline with minimal but effective electronic flourishes as a backdrop for Kimbra’s breezy, ethereal vocals.
