The Avett Brothers Bust Out ‘This Land Is Your Land’ In Charlotte

The Avett Brothers returned to Charlotte Motor Speedway on Friday night. The North Carolina natives busted out the Woody Guthrie anthem, “This Land Is Your Land.”

The timely Guthrie cover kicked off the show. It marked the first time The Avttes played the song since 2016 and just the third time overall, as per November Blue Database. Scott Avett led the band through the tune with Seth Avett joining in on the iconic chorus. The band continued with the staple “Head Full of Doubt/Road Full of Promise” from their 2009 album I And Love And You. 2018’s “Trouble Letting Go” came next ahead of a fleet-footed nod to bluegrass legend and fellow North Carolinian Doc Watson with “Wanted Man.”

After “Long Story Short,” the band delivered the classic “November Blue” followed by more vintage material in “Left On Laura, Left On Lisa” and “Love Like The Movies” both debuted before 2004. Staples “Morning Song,” “Ain’t No Man” and “I Wish I Was” came ahead of the Dylan-esque “C-Sections and Railway Trestles.” The relatively rare “Hard Worker” came next, played just 69 times since its debut in 2006, followed by “February Seven” which saw Scott and Seth trading off lead vocal duties and coming together for their trademark harmonies. The Avetts then got into some new material from their 2020 album The Third Gleam with “Victory” and “I Got To My Heart.” They then turned to a couple of covers in David Childers’ “The Prettiest Thing” and the traditional “Old Joe Clark.” More staples in “Kick Drum Heart” and “Paranoia in Bb Major” came ahead of the final song of the evening, “No Hard Feelings.”
