The String Cheese Incident Members Close Out Democracy Comes Alive With Grateful Dead’s “U.S. Blues” [Watch]

On Saturday, October 3rd, 50+ artists and 10+ speakers came together for Democracy Comes Alive, a one-day virtual music festival aimed at channelling the power of music to make a critical impact on civic participation in this November’s elections and beyond. The 10-hour streaming event, powered by Nugs.TV and Plus 1, generated $38,000 and counting in funds for voter registration nonprofit HeadCount, as well as the participating artists, who remain out of work as the pandemic continues. In addition to the funds generated, Democracy Comes Alive led thousands of people to HeadCount’s tools to check your voter registration status and register to vote.

After a day full of amazing music and stimulating conversations surrounding the imperative to get out the vote, four of the six members of The String Cheese Incident gathered in their studio for an appropriate rendition of Grateful Dead classic “U.S. Blues” to close out the festivities. With bassist Keith Moseley manning lead vocals, the stripped-down SCI lineup of Moseley, guitarist/vocalist Bill Nershi, keyboardist/vocalist Kyle Hollingsworth, and drummer Jason Hann took visible joy in imploring viewers to get out the vote with the quintessentially American tune by one of the most significant bands in American music history.

The performance finally closed with a short and sweet message from Moseley: “Please make sure you’re registered and get out and vote for the change you want to see.”
