Turkuaz has shared in-studio footage of “Nightswimming” from its initial tracking ahead of Digitonium‘s 2015 release. The release follows in-studio footage of the album’s title track, which arrived earlier this month, and precedes a limited-edition vinyl release in celebration of the record’s five-year anniversary.

Brooklyn’s favorite funk nonet recorded “Nightswimming” and the rest of Digitonium at More Sound Recording  Studios in Syracuse, NY, which saw production from frontman Dave Brandwein and mixing from Jason “Jocko” Randall.

Arriving with a vintage VHS overlay, the video for “Nightswimming”—much like “Digitonium”—sees a younger Turkuaz recording their fourth studio album without the rainbow attire that had become somewhat of a trademark at the time. The behind-the-scenes footage at the recording process offers fans a peek into the making of what would become a fan-favorite from the album.

“‘Nightswimming’ was born out of two demos that Taylor [Shell] and I each made individually,” shared Brandwein in a press release. “They were in the same key with the same tempo and feel. We started to wonder if we could combine them and as it turns out, we could! So what you hear is my original riff (the synth line that begins the song), with Taylor’s bass riff coming in over it. They weave and bob around each other in a very cool way that I think gives the song it’s unique feel,” he continued.

Brandwein went on to reminisce about the recording process, noting how they knew it would be a hit after the first take.

“After the first take, I’ll never forget when Jocko chimed in through my headphones saying, ‘Alright, there’s definitely a vibe going on in there,’” he elaborated. “That was inspiring to hear right at the top of the process, and from then on, the rest of the album just clicked together.”
