Brendan Bayliss Covers Ween, John Prine, The Doors & More For ‘Wine Not?’

152

Brendan Bayliss resumed his Wine Not? livestream series on Friday night. The Umphrey’s McGee guitarist offered up covers from Ween, John Prine, The Doors and more.

Bayliss got things underway by addressing the election and adding a little levity to the situation by stating, “We’re all self-medicating…whatever medicine you need to do to get through these times is fine. But I want you to remember, if you’re experiencing an election that lasts more than four days, you might wanna call your primary physician.” Brendan got the music underway with an apt version of Genesis’ “Land Of Confusion” followed by the UM tune “Wellwishers.” The Manhattans’ “Shining Star” came next ahead of “Backbone” from Brendan and the late great Jeff Austin’s project, 30db. Bayliss then got into Ween’s “Roses Are Free” which encompassed “Peaches” from The Presidents Of The United States.

Next up, UM’s “Upward” ahead of Pink Floyd’s “Fearless.” Annie Bayliss then led the way on John Prine’s “Angel From Montgomery” (while brandishing a lightsaber) with the husband and wife dueting on the chorus. Annie stayed to help Brendan out on 30db’s “Susanah” before BB continued with the stellar Steely Dan song “My Old School.” Tenacious D’s “Kielbasa,” which Bayliss and Umphrey’s bandmate Jake Cinninger recently played at their outdoor acoustic show in Illinois, came next ahead of The Doors deep cut “Hyacinth House.” Bayliss then treated the internet audience to a song he wrote “20 years ago” and possibly a debut. “Can I play a song I’ve never played for you guys,” he said before unveiling “Cologne.” Annie joined back in for U2’s “One” before Bayliss headed over to the piano for Chicago’s “If You Leave Me Now.” Annie would join him for Guns N’ Roses’ “Patience” to close out the stream.
