Bruce Springsteen released Greensboro 2008 today via Live Bruce Springsteen. The live archival recording comes from Bruce Springsteen And The E Street Band’s April 28, 2008 concert at the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, North Carolina as part of the Magic tour around Bruce’s 2007 album of the same name.
The Magic tour stop in Greensboro came in the wake of longtime E Street Band keyboardist Danny Federici’s death. The show opens with a tribute video set to “Blood Brothers,” but as Backstreets pointed out, the concert was more of a celebration of Federici’s life, especially given the well-documented energy of the Springsteen faithful in the Carolinas. The Boss treated Greensboro to material from Magic as well as classics’ like “The Promised Land,” “Darkness On The Edge Of Town,” “Born To Run” and more.
The 2008 tour saw Bruce opening with a different song each night and Greensboro received a one-two punch of rarities in “Roulette” and “Don’t Look Back.” The latter was set to appear on Springsteen’s 1978 album, Darkness On The Edge Of Town, but was ultimately bumped from the final cut. The 2008 Greensboro “Don’t Look Back” is the only time Bruce played the song live between 2000 – 2012 with just 31 live performances overall, as per an essay by Erik Flannigan on Nugs.net.
