Joe Biden has urged America to “put the anger and the harsh rhetoric behind us”, in his first comments as the nation’s president-elect. The former vice president is due to speak at a victory party in Wilmington, Delaware, on Saturday evening, where he will be joined him Kamala Harris, his running mate and now the vice-president elect. In a brief statement, the 77-year-old repeated the themes he had spoken of during his campaign for the White House, and in the days since election day, as the nation waited for a result.
