Phil Lesh presided over a socially distanced concert dubbed Phil’s Choice Phriday at Terrapin Crossroads’ Beach Park in San Rafael, California yesterday. The set included a number of Grateful Dead classics as well as a tune from the Allman Brothers Band catalog.
The band — bassist Phil Lesh, guitarists Scott Law and Grahame Lesh, keyboardist Jason Crosby, drummer Nathan Graham and vocalist Elliott Peck — kicked things off with Grahame Lesh leading the way on “Let It Grow” which headed into the Allman Brothers Band’s version of the blues standard “One Way Out.” Phil then stepped to the mic for “Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodleloo.” The band slowed things down a bit with Peck singing lead on “Brokedown Palace.”
Next up, “Brown-Eyed Women” saw Scott Law on lead vocals ahead of “The Music Never Stopped,” which featured Grahame on the verses and Elliott singing Donna Jean Godchaux’s part. The rollicking jam featured a fiery solo from Law with Crosby adding some nice complimentary touches on the piano. Phil then led the band through “Bird Song” ahead of “Mr. Charlie” featuring Peck. Law took over to sing “Deal” to close out Phil’s Choice Phriday.
