Phil Lesh Leads ‘Songs To Phil The Air’ Concert At Terrapin Crossroads’ Beach Park

85

Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh fronted a Songs To Phil The Air concert on Monday afternoon at Terrapin Crossroads’ outdoor Beach Park space in San Rafael, California. Phil was joined by guitarists Grahame Lesh and Scott Law, multi-instrumentalist Jason Crosby, drummer Nathan Graham and vocalist Elliott Peck for the one-set, socially distanced performance.

“It’s a beautiful day and Phil wants to play! So let there be songs to Phil the air,” read an announcement of the last-minute concert on the venue’s social feeds less than six hours before the band took the stage. Phil led the ensemble on “Pride Of Cucamonga” to kick off the show in honor of Scott Law, who “came down from Oregon.”

Scott Law and Grahame Lesh dueted on “Jack Straw,” which was followed a “Shakedown Street” that bled into “The Wheel.” Next, Elliott Peck was showcased on a cover of John Prine’s “Angel From Montgomery.” From there, the band presented a rollicking “Cumberland Blues” ahead of Scott Law handling lead vocals on “Ramble On Rose.” The concert came to a close with what Phil described as a “rockin’ Ripple.”
