Railroad Earth Debuts Grateful Dead Cover At Drive In Halloween Concert

72

Railroad Earth covered the Grateful Dead’s “New Speedway Boogie” for the first time during their drive in Halloween concert. The homecoming show was the second of two Railroad Earth performances held last weekend at The Sussex County Fairgrounds in Augusta, New Jersey.

The debut cover came at the end of set two, adding another Dead song to RRE’s live repertoire alongside the regularly played “Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo” and “Terrapin Station,” among others. The band followed the set closer with an encore of their arrangement of Tom Waits’ “Cold Water.”

Earlier in the evening, the first set began with “Walk Beside Me” by Tim O’Brien & Darrell Scott, followed by “Happy Song” and “The Great Divide.” The set contained other RRE favorites like “Farewell to Isinglass” and “Grandfather Mountain” as well as Robert Earl Keen’s “For Love” and a “Slippin’ Away” closer.

More RRE staples began the second set, which opened with “Just So You Know” into “Hard Livin’” backed by “Hunting Song” into “All That’s Dead May Live Again.” The set filled out with more often played tunes, “Seven Story Mountain,” “Bread & Water,” “Hangtown Ball,” “Mighty River” and “12 Wolves.”
