The incomparable Sharon Jones left this world on November 18th, 2016—four years ago today—but it seems like just yesterday the fan-favorite singer from New York City was still making audiences move to the music with her gift of performing gospel-inspired soul. The former Rikers Island corrections officer amazingly earned her mid-career renaissance starting in the mid-1990s and would go on to release a number of acclaimed studio albums until her death from cancer at just age 60 in 2016.
Tributes and musical memorials were shared by fans and Jones’ musical colleagues in the weeks following her departure. One of the more fitting tributes following her death in 2016 came from funk band Lettuce, who shared a video shortly after her passing of their on-stage performance of Isaac Hayes“Do Your Thing” alongside Jones and Alecia Shakour, which originally took place during Georgia’s Major Rager back in 2015.
The fan-shot video of the memorable performance can be watched in full below, with Jones seen strutting her way onto the stage beginning at the 3:10 minute mark.

It’s almost impossible to tune into the performance without getting all emotional, but if Miss. Jones was here today one can only assume that she would want her fans dancing to the music rather than dwelling on her absence. As the tribute post originally shared by Lettuce fittingly states below, the music world still misses your “Supremely Fiery Spirit,” Ms. Jones!
