Denver-based singer-songwriter Rob Drabkin draws both aesthetic and thematic influence from the late, great Bob Ross in the video for his new tune, “Let Out The Love”.
In the video, we see Drabkin in full Bob Ross regalia as he co-opts Ross’s famous PBS painting show, The Joy of Painting, as The Joy of Painting and Music. With his wily mane of curly hair, Drabkin already had the core of the Bob Ross visuals locked and loaded.
“For years, people kept telling me that I look like Bob Ross,” says Drabkin. “I’d grown numb to hearing the comparisons. But, when my manager suggested the idea of a Bob Ross style lyric video, I stopped in my tracks. And I soon found myself on set in L.A. painting to my songs in front of three cameras. Bob Ross has an unmatched style and wisdom. He helped fill the world with joy one painting at a time. At the end of the day, Bob Ross is inimitable. But, I did my best!”
The song itself, produced by Shep Goodman and Aaron Accetta (American Authors, Rob Thomas, Mandy Moore), is a sunny, anthemic sing-along laced with the same good-natured, wholesome sentiment that made Ross such a beloved figure.
“Love is ever-present,” Drabkin notes about “Let Out The Love”. “We share it with each other through laughter, smiles, and sympathy. We can find it in everything, and we can create it in the smallest, most unassuming moments of our lives. We should all have the courage to choose love in every decision we make. The message of the song is simple: Choose love and share love.”
“When I sing about love in this song,” Drabkin continues, “I am referring to courage, kindness, empathy and respect. This moment has taught us to stand up for what is right and decent. I hope this song inspires us to choose love over fear every single time.”
