Austin City Limits producers made lemonade out of the lemons served up by the pandemic and will complete Season 46 in 2021. The rest of this season’s broadcast schedule for the long-running live music television show has been revealed and includes new performances filmed without an audience and episodes featuring highlights from ACL’s illustrious history.
The first Austin City Limits episode of 2021, “ACL Hall Of Fame: The First 6 Years,” premieres on PBS January 2. Performances from a slew of inductees including Willie Nelson, Buddy Guy and Bonnie Raitt as well as guests such as Gary Clark Jr. Jason Isbell, Mavis Staples and Brandi Carlile will be featured in the upcoming installment devoted to the ACL Hall Of Fame.
Highlights from Foo Fighters’ appearances on the show first airs on January 9 in celebration of the band’s 25th anniversary, while the episode on January 16 features new performances from The War & Treaty and Ruthie Foster. Then, Ray Wylie Hubbard stars in the January 23rd episode, which will be followed by “The Best Of Spoon” on January 30.
Season 46 ends with a pair of tributes. Austin City Limits premieres “Texas Icons: Jerry Jeff Walker & Billy Joe Shaver” on February 6. Finally, a classic episode featuring the late Allen Toussaint recorded during ACL’s 35th season drops on February 13.
“In a year like no other, we’re proud that we were able to capture seven brand-new performances for our 46th season,” explained ACL executive producer Terry Lickona. “As always, they include a mix that’s eclectic, electric and even a touch eccentric. On top of that, we were able to pull some gems out of the ACL goldmine to celebrate some highlights from the past, and honor those who helped to create the ACL legacy.”
Each episode can be viewed on PBS at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT.
