Billy Strings Continues ‘String The Halls’ With Arlie Duff’s “Y’all Come” [Watch]

Thursday brought another installment of Billy Strings‘ ongoing String The Halls: Home For The Holidays Edition video series, this time with a take on “Y’all Come”. The Arlie Duff cover comes as the fourth episode in the virtual edition of the annual String The Halls celebration.

Joining previous renditions of “Stone Walls And Steel Bars” and “Think Of What You’ve Done” by The Stanley Brothers and “Unwanted Love” by Reno & Smiley, this tribute to a bluegrass pioneer continues Strings and company’s traditionalist style present throughout the series.

Though the song was originally released by Duff in 1953, it quickly gained popularity and was covered by everyone from Bill Monroe to Bing Crosby within a year. At any rate, the lean 2:39 minute rendition packs a lot into a brief window as mandolin player Jarrod Walker comes out early to steal the show. In spite of Walker’s ability, however, the song’s now-poignant lyrics of “y’all come and see us when you can” tugs at the fragile heartstrings of thousands of concert-goers as we continue to wonder when we will be able to come and see our favorite acts once again.

Watch Billy Strings perform “Y’all Come” for the fourth installment of String The Halls. The poster code for Thursday is GOAT.
