Black Pumas are featured in the latest installment of NPR Music’s Tiny Desk (Home) Concert video series. Co-founders Eric Burton and Adrian Quesada were joined by their full touring band for performances of songs from their self-titled 2019 debut studio album as well as a track that was released earlier this year on the deluxe edition of Black Pumas.
The ensemble began the session with “Red Rover,” one of three new originals featured on Black Pumas (Deluxe Edition). “We decided to do this to send you guys a little bit of love out there encouraging you to do your best to stay safe and hold things that are dear to you really near right now as we are experiencing very peculiar times,” Burton explained.
Black Pumas went on to deliver stellar renditions of three songs from their self-titled debut LP. Up first was a version of “Fire” featuring a fierce solo from Quesada. Then, “OCT 33” showed off sweet harmonies from backing vocalists Lauren Cervantes and Angela Miller. For the finale, Black Pumas performed “Colors,” a track nominated for Record Of The Year and Best American Roots Performance Grammys.
