Dave Grohl and Greg Kurstin continued their ongoing Hanukkah Sessions series on Monday with a cover of “Rainy Day Women #12 & 35” by Bob Dylan. This marked the fifth night of Hanukkah and the fifth video from the Foo Fighters frontman and his faithful producer.
Launched on the first night of the Festival of Lights this past Thursday, the series finds Grohl and Kurstin covering a different song by a different Jewish artist each night. So far, the duo has paid tribute to Beastie Boys, Drake, Mountain, and Peaches.

While many expected an inevitable Dylan cover when the series was announced last week, it wasn’t a sure thing. Considering not only the fact that Grohl and Kurstin have chosen a few off-the-wall covers for a rock duo already, but there’s also the fact that Dylan—born Robert Zimmerman—converted to Christianity in the late 1970s. At any rate, “Rainy Day Women #12 & 35” is at least grandfathered in as a track from 1966’s Blonde on Blonde back when Zimmerman would still hoist a yamaka over those curly locks.
In this rendition, Kurstin makes the switch to a traditional piano to achieve the New Orleans waltz feel that permeates the song. The longtime Foo Fighters producer also dons a harmonica, with Grohl adding to a tambourine to his kit atop a hi-hat. The duo said of the song in the video’s description,
So now everybody must get stoned (not in the Law of Moses sense) as we put some blood on this track: Rainy Day Women 12&35 by the immortal Bob Dylan!
