Jack Johnson Shares Election-Inspired Single “The Captain Is Drunk” [Listen]

Jack Johnson has released a new song entitled, “The Captain Is Drunk”, which marks the laid-back Hawaiian guitarist’s second single this year following his “Don’t Let Me Down” collaboration with Milky Chance shared back in the spring. Both songs will likely appear on Johnson’s next full-length studio album, which will be his first since 2017’s All the Light Above It Too.

Released on Friday via his own imprint, “The Captain Is Drunk” was inspired in part by Charles Nordhoff and James Norman Hall‘s Men Against the Sea book trilogy, though the song’s lyrics were also fueled by the recent 2020 election. As Johnson notes, “Growing up some of my favorite books were from the ‘Men Against The Sea’ Trilogy. With how divided our country felt leading up to the election, the stories from this series kept popping into my mind. Big decisions on which way to sail in the middle of a storm as people disagree.”
