Bob Dylan, Bee Gees, Big Star and more were among the artists Jeff Tweedy and his sons Spencer Tweedy and Sammy Tweedy covered during Monday’s episode of The Tweedy Show. Jeff Tweedy also unveiled a new original called “Tunnel At The End Of The Light.”
Monday’s edition of The Tweedy Show, livestreaming from Susie Tweedy’s Instagram account, began with some banter from the Tweedy family — including Jeff remarking that he would perform Air Supply’s “All Out Of Love” for charity — before Jeff played his new song, “Tunnel At The End Of The Light” solo acoustic. Susie then asked what the name of the song is with Jeff joking he sang it “a thousand times.”
Spencer (on drums) and Jeff then struck up an abridged instrumental version of the Bee Gee’s “Stayin’ Alive” with Jeff adding guitar and some of the legendary band’s signature falsetto. Jeff then remarked that he’d like to work with Barry Gibb before he and Spencer performed Bob Dylan’s “Lay Lady Lay.” Later, Sammy led the trio through Big Star’s “Thirteen” dedicated to the band’s Alex Chilton on what would have been the singer-songwriter’s 70th birthday. The Tweedys also paid tribute to Pops Staples with “Friendship” on what would have been the soul legend’s 106th birthday. The Tweedys closed out the 134th episode of The family closed out the show with a “Stayin’ Alive” reprise which they mashed up with Roger Miller’s “Reincarnation.”
