Leslie Mendelson Shares ‘Happy New Year’ Live Performance Video

96

Leslie Mendelson shared a live performance video of her single, “Happy New Year,” out now via Royal Potato Family. Originally released for the holiday in 2018, the Brooklyn based singer-songwriter revisited the tune as a send off to the difficult year that has been 2020.

The new version of “Happy New Year” follows two studio releases from Mendelson in 2020, her April album If You Can’t Say Anything Nice… and an acoustic EP called In The Meantime recorded during quarantine. With the pandemic canceling most live music, Mendelson supported the records by doing livestreams. It was at one of these webcasts in October where the singer-songwriter was inspired to revisit “Happy New Year.”

“Back in October I was taking requests for a live stream I was about to play at City Winery and someone asked for my song ‘Happy New Year,’” Leslie said in a statement. “I was thinking that it was a little early to play a holiday song, but seeing as how badly everyone wants this year to be over with, I decided to include it and it felt really right singing it that night.”

Mendelson then took to Woodstock, New York’s Applehead Recording to film and record a solo piano rendition of the tune. Watch Leslie Mendelson perform “Happy New Year” below:
