Lukas Nelson & Promise Of The Real celebrated Christmas Eve with a cover of Tom Waits‘ “Come On Up To The House” as the latest installment for the band’s Soundcheck Songs performance video series. This comes as the sixth installment of the cover series, and the song was chosen by multi-instrumentalist Logan Metz.
Last week’s yuletide Soundcheck Songs video comes following covers of “Magnolia” by J.J. Cale, “Obvious Child” by Paul Simon, “Romeo And Juliet” by Dire Straits, “Like An Inca” by Neil Young, and “Jealous Guy” by John Lennon.

The blues-rock tune from Waits’ 1999 album Mule Variations plays into some of the many strengths displayed by Nelson & POTR as the frontman provides slick guitar phrasings throughout. Along with sparing instrumental input from the rest of the group, Nelson leads the band through a slow waltz around the tune as his vocals act as the focal point of the cover. Metz’s organ playing in the background lends the song an almost church-like feel as Nelson delivers his sermon, inviting listeners to “Come On Up To The House”.
