Beastie Boys’ Mike D To Auction Off Gold & Platinum Records, MTV Awards For Charity

Beastie Boys’ member Mike D took to his Instagram on Wednesday to announce he’s planning to sell off some of the band’s awards and accolades to raise money for a good cause.

A lengthy post shared to the famous rapper’s Instagram reads,

I was never comfortable holding onto or looking at these awards/accolades that we got through the years. Don’t get me wrong – I’m appreciative of them, it’s just not something I need to look at. Anyway, I would give them to my mom whenever they came in and she was really happy to have them. Sadly, she died this last year. She was an amazing woman, but that’s a whole other story. Sooooo we are selling some of the stuff that she had. I know the shit is pricey and maybe you have none or very little interest. And that’s fine. But all the $ goes to @goodeatsorg – an awesome charity getting food to kids in need in NYC and beyond.

Among the list of “awards/accolades” mentioned by the surviving Beastie Boys member include the band’s 1998/1999 “Best Hip-Hop Video” MTV Video Music Award for “Intergalactic”, two 1987 RIAA Gold Record plaque for the band’s landmark Licensed To Ill album, and the RIAA Gold and Platinum Record plaques for 1989’s Paul’s Boutique, to name a few.

As mentioned above, money raised from the auction held by Sothebys will go to benefit Good Eats For Life, an organization that provided prepared meals for underprivileged children.
