Pat Ferguson shared a new single, “The Confidence Man,” via LoHi Records. The track features Railroad Earth’s Tim Carbone and Elliott Peck of Midnight North.
Recorded remotely from the artists’ home studios, “The Confidence Man” sees Ferguson on guitar and vocals. Peck joins Pat on harmonies with Carbone arranging and performing the string arrangements.
Pat Ferguson detailed the song in a statement. Read his words below:
2020 was a year of so much heartache and, for me personally, one where I was forced to slow down and deeply reflect. Seeing the world as a whole and so many loved ones
within it be torn apart by the pandemic, racial injustice, politics, and in many cases, themselves,
has been excruciating. This song is meant to be a “goodbye” to the relentless weight of anger and negativity that has for too long been forced upon, between, and within us.
Carbone and Peck also worked on Ferguson’s upcoming sophomore LP, set for release in 2021 via LoHi. The record sees additional contributions from Carbone’s RRE band mates Carey Harmon and Mike Robinson as well as Jacob Jolliff, Kenny Leiser, Kevin Rowe and banjo great Tony Trischka.

When Pat sent me The Confidence Man to work on with him I thought, “Well this will put a
coda on 2020.” Little did I know, in light of the events of the week after the new year, how
much this song would really mean. And it was great to dive in and help color in the spaces on
this tune after having recently finished his soon-to-be released second album. Pat’s a great
songwriter, one who can make the listener understand what he’s saying while leaving room for
people to draw their own conclusions. A rare talent.
