Spafford performed a livestream concert from the Marquee Theatre in Tempe, Arizona on New Year’s Eve. The band unveiled covers from Lionel Richie, Counting Crows, Gorillaz & Porno For Pyros for the NYE home state show.
Spafford kicked off the first of three sets with one of those debuts, the Lionel Richie classic “All Night Long (All Night).” The band then continued with the originals “Lovesick Melody” into “Soil” ahead of the relatively new tune “Gold Glittered Hat,” which they debuted in October 2019, as per Spaffnerds. “Red’s Jam,” named after keyboardist Andrew “Red” Johnson, came next before the quartet closed out the first set with the staple “Windmill.” The band got the second set underway with a pair of originals, “Fuel” and “My Road (My Road),” ahead of another cover debut, Porno For Pyros’ “Pets.” Spafford’s “Todd’s Tots,” “Leave The Light On” and “Settled In” would conclude the second set.
While each set saw the band changing up their wardrobe, the third frame featured the group in all white, the first time since NYE 2013 according to Spafford Facebook. Guitarist Brian Moss and bassist Jordan Fairless also played white guitars for the unveiling of Gorillaz’ “DARE.” The band then launched into a fully segued section with the vintage Spaff tune “Weasel” encompassing another classic “Palisades” before an “Electric Taco Stand” segment that included “Auld Lang Syne” closed down the set. Sapffrod remerged for an encore which once again saw Brian and Jordan on their white guitars for an apt debut of Counting Crows’ “A Long December” before bringing the stream to a close with “Dirtbath.”
