Singer and Emmy-nominated actor Chrissy Metz chats with Maggie Rose on the latest episode of Rose’s Osiris Media podcast, Salute The Songbird With Maggie Rose. Metz talks about her musical journey, earning the role of Kate Pearson on the NBC television series This Is Us and more.
Rose, who co-wrote a song with Metz before the pandemic, describes Chrissy as “simply radiant,” “positive” and “goofy.” Chrissy recalls growing up in Japan on a naval base and the experience of writing a memoir, This Is Me. Metz eventually moved to Gainesville and speaks of surviving life in a broken home. She notes she took solace in music as a little girl.

Episode 76 of ‘The JamBase Podcast’ features an interview with singer-songwriter and Osiris podcaster Maggie Rose who talks about her ‘Salute The Songbird’ podcast, upcoming new album and much more.
The conversation then turns to Chrissy’s early days acting. Metz tells the story of thinking she should switch careers before being cast in FX’s American Horror Story: Freak Show. The experience helped prepare her for This Is Us. Chrissy explains the process that led to her scoring the role on the NBC series and recounts the call from showrunner Dan Fogelman telling her she was in. “That was literally the day my life changed,” Metz says.
Chrissy Metz was signed by Universal Music Group Nashville. She is currently working on her debut album. Metz talks about the differences between her singing as Kate on This Is Us and her own music. “Having written some great songs and about to head on a tour and then the lockdown comes, I remember being sad for a day and I said, ‘Chrissy, you can be sad for a day but there are people struggling with much bigger issues and when it’s right, it’ll happen,” Metz remembers.
Metz tells the life lessons she learned that gave her self-confidence, a feeling that informs much of the material in her music. “This is gonna be a good album, I’m excited,” Rose says. Chrissy goes on to discuss her creativity during the pandemic, continuing a friendship with her ex-husband, a visit to Oprah Winfrey’s house and other topics. The episode ends with audio of “Talking To God,” a single released by Chrissy Metz last year.
