Cris Jacobs Covers The Meters, Jason Isbell, Rolling Stones & More

99

Cris Jacobs delivered covers from The Meters, Jason Isbell, The Rolling Stones and more during a recent livestream. The performance took place on February 2 as part of the singer-songwriter’s ongoing weekly livestream series.

While the set contained a number of great covers, Cris kicked things off with a pair of originals, “Holler And Hum” and “Let Me Off This Train,” on acoustic guitar. After Richard Thompson’s “Vincent Black Lightning 1952,” Jacobs nodded to Jason Isbell with the latter’s “Cover Me Up,” which featured a characteristically amazing vocal performance from Cris. Next, Jacobs switched to electric slide guitar for his own “Kind Woman” and stuck with the electric for another original, “Break Your Fall.”

After The Subdudes’ “Work Clothes,” Jacobs busted out a gorgeous sunburst Fender Stratocaster for The Meters classic “People Say,” which saw Cris looping a rhythm and delivering some tasty soloing on the Strat. Jacobs would also break out his cigar box slide for Bill Withers’ “Grandma’s Hands” ahead of his own “Leaving Charm City” and the stellar Tyler Childers tune, “Charleston Girl,” a duet with his wife Kat Jacobs. The Childers song kicked off a run of covers to close out the set that included Tom Waits’ “Cold Water,” Bon Iver’s “Re: Stacks,” Smokey Robinson and The Miracles’ “Ohh Baby Baby” and set closer, The Rolling Stones’ “Loving Cup.”
