Drive-By Truckers’ Jay Gonzalez Shares ‘Crying Through The Wall’ Video Featuring Michael Cerveris

70

Drive-By Truckers multi-instrumentalist Jay Gonzalez shared a video of his song “Crying Through The Wall” featuring singer and Broadway actor Michael Cerveris. The track is set to land on Gonzalez’s forthcoming album, Back To The Hive, due out on March 5 via his own Middlebrow Records.

Gonzalez recorded Back To The Hive — his second solo release — in his hometown of Athens, Georgia with longtime collaborator Chris Grehan. The new LP also features contributions from former Drive-By Truckers members Matt Lane (drums) and John Neff (pedal steel guitar) as well as The Glands drummer Joe Rowe. Gonzalez heralded Back To The Hive with the single “(I Wanna) Hold You” earlier this month and now follows with the Robin Gibb tribute, “Crying Through The Wall,” the performance video for which features Michael Cerveris (the singer does not appear on the album version).

Gonzalez spoke about collaborating with Cerveris and more in a statement. Read his words below:

Most people know Michael because of his incredible roles in Broadway musicals, but perhaps not as many are aware that he fronts his own amazing band, Loose Cattle, who invited me to play on their cover of “Fear is a Man’s Best Friend.” As a guy writing pop tunes in his carport music room, it is beyond an honor to have Michael’s outstanding voice singing one of my songs. Michael and I performed and filmed ourselves in our respective homes, and John Britt edited the final video.
