Luke Combs & Billy Strings Release New Single ‘The Great Divide’

83

Country star Luke Combs and jam scene favorite Billy Strings teamed up on the new single “The Great Divide.” Combs and Strings co-wrote the song with Wyatt Durrette addressing and calling for an end to the deep and wide division within this country.

Luke and Billy are joined on “The Great Divide” by bassist Royal Masat from Strings’ band as well as Charlie Worsham on acoustic guitar, mandolin and banjo and percussionist Eric Darken. The track was recorded in Nashville last month by Chip Matthews, who also handled production and mixing duties.

Combs put out his first new music of 2021 as a standalone single but that wasn’t always the plan. “Something that I’ve always wanted to do is write and put out a bluegrass album. This is a song that was supposed to be a part of that project,” Luke revealed in a statement. “When we wrote it, there were a lot of crazy things going on in the world,” Combs explained of the song’s lyrical content. “There’s still a lot of crazy things going on in the world. And I just felt like I had some stuff to say. It’s not meant to be political. It’s not meant to try and tell you what to think or tell you how to believe. That’s not my job. It’s just a guy kinda saying the way he was feeling when he wrote it.”

“This song is our interpretation of the conflicts and tension we had been witnessing/experiencing around the time we wrote it,” added Billy Strings. “We wanted to shine a little light on the situation and offer a bit of hope during what has been a tough time for many.”
