Post Malone contributed a cover of Hootie & The Blowfish’s “Only Wanna Be With You” to an upcoming virtual concert celebrating Pokémon’s 25th anniversary he’s headlining. Malone released “Only Wanna Be With You Pokémon 25 Version” today with the livestream special set to premiere on Saturday, February 27 at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT via the official Pokémon YouTube and Twitch channels.
Hootie & The Blowfish originally issued “Only Wanna Be With You” in 1994 on their debut studio album, Cracked Rear View. The single scored a big hit for the band, reaching as high as number six on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Fittingly, “Only Wanna Be With You” was last on the charts 25 years ago.
Post Malone’s virtual concert continues a yearlong celebration of the Pokémon franchise’s 25th anniversary. Katy Perry and other surprise performers will contribute to the “P25 Music” series.
