Rodrigo y Gabriela Announce ‘Jazz’ EP & Share Kamasi Washington Cover

91

Rodrigo y Gabriela announced a new cover EP, Jazz, set for release on May 14 via Rubyworks/ATO. The guitar duo shared Kamasi Washington’s “Street Fighter Mas” to preview the record.

Jazz also includes Astor Piazzolla’s “Oblivion,” featuring a guest appearance by flamenco guitar legend Vicente Amigo. Addtionally, the duo tackled Snarky Puppy’s “Lingus” along with the Kamasi Washington cover, the latter of which both Rodrigo Sanchez and Gabriela Quintero spoke about in a statement.

“It was a no-brainer for us,” Rodrigo said of the Kamasi cover. “Kamasi is one of the most exciting jazz musicians out there and ‘Street Fighter Mas’ has such a good groove.”

“It was a challenge for us,” Gabriela added, “recreating the instruments with just two guitars, so it became a kind of game. We had to change a few bits and pieces, especially in how I interpreted the drum parts on my guitar.”

“Street Fighter Mas” arrived with a performance video. Watch it below:
