Steve Kimock Band Continues Magical Colorado Run On This Date In 2002

114

In February of 2002 guitarist Steve Kimock brought the latest incarnation of his Steve Kimock Band to Colorado for a series of shows that still stands among his career highlights. The SKB lineup from this run found Kimock joined by guitarist Mitch Stein, bassist Alphonso Johnson and drummer Rodney Holmes. One of the standout performances from the run took place on this date in 2002 and a crispy recording of the show can be streamed and downloaded below.

Kimock and his quartet gave a master class in dynamics at the Gothic Theatre in Englewood, Colorado on February 22, 2002. The foursome was in fine form from the moment they began the “Ice Cream Factory” opener through the final notes of the “Little Wing” cover that ended the evening. Included within are marvelous versions of Kimock-penned classics “Cole’s Law” and “Tangled Hangers” and an “It’s Up To You” that expands well past the 20-minute mark. Highlights from the run were quickly released as Live From Colorado, though full on-stage recordings of the SKB’s February 21, 22, 23 and 24th shows are available on the Live Music Archive.
