The Allman Brothers Band vault will open once again on March 26 for Down In Texas ’71. The live archival release was recorded at the Austin Municipal Auditorium in Austin, Texas on September 28, 1971.
Down In Texas ’71 contains nine tracks including such beloved ABB classics as “Don’t Keep Me Wonderin’,” “In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed” and “Hot ‘Lanta.” The live album features the original Allman Brothers Band lineup consisting of Duane Allman, Dickey Betts, Gregg Allman, Jai Johanny “Jaimoe” Johanson, Berry Oakley and Butch Trucks. Duane passed away just one month later.
Saxophonist Rudolph “Juicy” Carter appears on six of Down In Texas ’71’s nine tracks. Juicy gave Johanson the “Jaimoe” nickname during their time together in Percy Sledge’s band.
The set is available for pre-order via Merch Mountain on CD. Physical copies of the release feature a radio interview with Berry Oakley and Duane Allman recorded in Houston on June 6, 1971. A digital release begins March 26th through The Big House Museum gift shop and online store. Proceeds benefit The Big House, a three-story residence in Macon where members of the band and their families live from 1970 – 1973 that was converted into a museum.
