The Revivalists frontman David Shaw is gearing up for the release of his debut solo album via Yokoko Records/C3 Records later this year. Today, Shaw dropped two tracks from the forthcoming LP, “Heavy Soul” and “Shivers.”
David’s new dual singles come after he shared “Shaken” and “Promised Land” back in September. Shaw recorded the songs for his solo effort at The Parlor Recording Studio in his current hometown of New Orleans.

Stream an interview with The Revivalists frontman David Shaw on Episode 71 of ‘The JamBase Podcast.’
The vocalist tapped Tim Pagnotta to produce the intense and pulsating “Heavy Soul,” a song not far removed from The Revivalists’ trademark sound. “I’m excited to finally get more of my solo music out into the universe,” Shaw stated. “This idea of ‘Heavy Soul’ was kicking around in my head for a while. I feel like that’s the kind of music I make. It’s soulful, but in a rock and roll way. The riff was the first thing I played when I sat down, and I just had to make a song out of that. It grows from this haunting thing into something totally different by the end.”
The piano-tinged ballad “Shivers” was produced by Jack Splash. “It’s about as real as you can get with this tune,” David noted. “It’s magical, sweet, and tender and paints this picture that even with all the chaos that may surround us, we are immune to it all because of the love that we share. It’s funny because it speaks to a similar theme as The Revivalists’ ‘Wish I Knew You.’ That same sentiment about stealing back time crept back into ‘Shivers’ in a different way. I really think my girlfriend is my soulmate, and we were maybe even together in another life. We’re currently stealing back that time.”
David Shaw appears on NPR’s World Café today to perform songs from his debut solo album. The episode premieres at 2 p.m. ET/11 a.m. PT and then can be heard on-demand through the program’s website.
