The ever-creative Tune-Yards embraced a colorful aesthetic for their The Late Show With Stephen Colbert debut on Monday night. Merrill Garbus, Nate Brenner and backing musicians delivered a remote performance of “hold yourself” filmed on a set decorated in bright hues and filled with a number of bean bag chairs.
“hold yourself” is the recently released single from the band’s forthcoming sketchy album. The 11-track LP is due out via 4AD on March 26.
“This song is about feeling really betrayed, by my parents’ generation, and at the same time, really seeing how we are betraying the future,” Garbus said regarding “hold yourself” upon its release. Merrill got her groove on in leading Tune-Yards through “hold yourself” for Colbert and made great use of the bean bag chairs.
