Exactly one year ago today, Mick Fleetwood put together what would still have been a candidate for best concert of the year even if COVID-19 hadn’t shut down all live events the following month. On February 25th, 2020, at The London Palladium, a venerable who’s-who of rock and roll royalty gathered for Mick Fleetwood and Friends Celebrate Peter Green and the Early Music of Fleetwood Mac. The concert was taped in full and is slated for a theatrical release next month, ahead of which Mick Fleetwood has shared the ensemble’s performance of “Rattlesnake Shake”, with Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler on vocals.
The evening saw dynamic performances from Mick Fleetwood, Dave Bronze, Neil Finn, Noel Gallagher, Billy Gibbons, David Gilmour, Kirk Hammett, Jonny Lang, John Mayall, Christine McVie, Ricky Peterson, Zak Starkey, Rick Vito, Steven Tyler, Pete Townshend, Andy Fairweather Low, Bill Wyman, and Jeremy Spencer.
At any given moment there is at least one Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee onstage, and this video of “Rattlesnake Shake” is certainly no exception. Tyler puts on a memorable performance of the Then Play On track as he taps into the early blues energy of late guitarist Peter Green’s original vision for Fleetwood Mac. By his side is ZZ Top guitarist Billy Gibbons who only bolsters the blues-infused performance while Tyler does what he does best and captivates every eyeball at the Palladium.
The film is still slated for an unspecified one-night-only showing in theaters next month with physical copies, available in a wide variety of formats, out on April 30th.
“The concert was a celebration of those early blues days where we all began, and it’s important to recognize the profound impact Peter and the early Fleetwood Mac had on the world of music,” Fleetwood said in a statement about the concert film. “Peter was my greatest mentor and it gave me such joy to pay tribute to his incredible talent. I was honored to be sharing the stage with some of the many artists Peter has inspired over the years and who share my great respect for this remarkable musician.”
