Garage A Trois Shares “The Epic” From First Album In 10 Years [Listen]

Garage A Trois returned on Wednesday with “The Epic”, the second single off the band’s upcoming album, Calm Down Cologne. Out on April 16th via Royal Potato Family, the album marks the trio’s first new album in a decade.

In addition to ending of a period of dormancy for Garage A Trois, Calm Down Cologne also sees the band’s original lineup reuniting for their first album in 22 years. With guitarist Charlie Hunter, saxophonist Skerik, and drummer Stanton Moore all on hand for the first time since their debut—1999’s Mysteryfunk—the new album already rings of that classic Garage A Trois sound.

Also referred to as OG GAT, the original lineup convened at Stone Gossard’s Studio Litho in Seattle to record the new album with engineer Randall Dunn. As fans have come to expect from the highly-improvisational group, Calm Down Cologne stands as a testament to live experimentation. The title track is the only pre-composed piece on the album, while the others flowed freely in the studio as the tapes rolled.

“Charlie and Stanton have been playing together for 25 years. There is a limitless quantity of output that they are able to generate. My job is to stay out of the way of their immovable freight train of rhythmic power and add melodic content on top,” Skerik said in a press release. “And the final element of this sonic signature comes from Randall who glues the music together in the recording and mixing process. He’s the perfect engineer for records that depend on improvisation. He moves fast and gets huge sounds that convey the dynamics and power of the band.”
