Greensky Bluegrass made lemonades out of COVID-19 lemons by presenting a series of eight The Leap Year Sessions livestream concerts each Friday night in August and September 2020. Next Friday, March 19, the jamgrass quintet will release remastered audio from the first two shows of the series on digital services as The Leap Year Sessions: Volume One. JamBase is pleased to premiere video featuring The Leap Year Sessions: Volume One track “Windshield” to preview the compilation.
Each The Leap Year Sessions performance was held with full production at the empty St. Louis venue The Pageant. The Leap Year Sessions: Volume One features a mix of beloved originals such as “The Four,” “In Control,” “Leap Year” and “Kerosene” and covers including takes on songs by Pink Floyd, Bob Marley and Bill Monroe.
“After months of being apart from each other, the feeling of playing music with my band of brothers was nothing short of pure joy,” GSBG dobroist Anders Beck explained. “We can’t wait to be with you again!” Three additional The Leap Year Sessions volumes will follow.
“Windshield” was debuted by Greensky Bluegrass on July 12, 2013 at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado as per Phantasy Tour. The band included a studio version on their 2014 studio album, If Sorrows Swim. GSBG played “Windshield” toward the beginning of their second The Leap Year Sessions concert on August 14, 2020 after opening with “All Four” and “I’m Still Here.”
