Today, podcast Inside Out with Turner & Seth unveils the second and final installment of a special in celebration of the show’s fifth anniversary. Co-hosts Rob Turner and Seth Weiner started the podcast in March of 2016 and went on to join the Osiris Media Network, a partner of JamBase.
“wTnS 5th Anniversary Special (Part 2 of 2)” combines audio from past interviews featuring Stanley Clarke, Billy Cobham, Sam Bush, Neal Casal, Brendan Bayliss, Peter Rowan and Michael League with fresh commentary from Rob and Seth. First, Clarke shares a story about taking up the saxophone for a short period following the death of John Coltrane to begin the episode. Turner and Weiner then give thanks to some of the people and outlets, including JamBase, that helped spread word of the podcast.
Next, Billy Cobham recalls meeting Jerry Garcia and tells the tale of getting dosed on the set of Saturday Night Live. “I was out of it just on the contact high,” the legendary drummer states. Next up is acclaimed bluegrass musician Sam Bush who speaks of performing and recording with Emmylou Harris and notes her role in saving Nashville’s historic Ryman Auditorium, talks baseball and more.
The episode continues with highlights from Neal Casal’s appearance on the podcast. Casal spoke with Turner and Seth shortly before he died by suicide. Neal explains how he first met Ryan Adams and went on to become a member of The Cardinals. From there, Umphrey’s McGee’s Brendan Bayliss shares the story of Jake Cinninger joining the band.
Acclaimed bluegrass musician Peter Rowan is featured next. Rowan recalls the role Joe Val played in his career, performing with Bill Monroe and more. Finally, Snarky Puppy’s Michael League discusses the group’s trip to Cuba and additional topics.
