Lake Street Dive has returned with the fourth single off the band’s upcoming album, Obviously, entitled “Being A Woman”. Written by bassist Bridget Kearney, the song takes aim at gender inequality and both the modern and historical struggles of womanhood. Obviously is out on March 12th via Nonesuch Records.
“Being A Woman” arrives ahead of International Women’s Day on March 8th and examines femininity through a variety of lenses. As frontwoman Rachel Price repeats the phrase, “Being a woman is an uphill climb”, she highlights the wage gap, the glass ceiling, and more, all the while acknowledging “if I complain they’ll blame my feelings.”

“Happy Women’s History Month and this one goes out to all of the hard-working women of the world,” says Kearney. “We are thankful to the many voices that came before us shouting for gender equality, without whom we may never have had this microphone in which to say, ‘it’s not fixed yet!’ With this song, we humbly add our voices to that chorus.”
Lake Street Dive has a media blitz planned for Obviously, bookending the album’s release with an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on March 11th and CBS This Morning: Saturday Sessions on the 13th.
