New York-based rock outfit Circus Mind has released the NOLA-inspired single “Are You Ready?”, featuring guitar savant and frequent collaborator Brandon “Taz” Niederauer.
The song comes as people all around the world are suffering from pandemic fatigue, especially in the realm of live music. The explosive energy of the track seems to match the pent-up energy of the concert-starved masses as frontman/keyboardist Mark Rechler inquires, “are you ready to turn it on?”
Halfway through the song, the young guitarist delivers his psychedelic, Hendrix-inspired solo to typically astonishing effect. Given the feel and nuance of his playing on the Circus Mind cut, it’s easy to forget that the young guitarist Taz still can’t legally patronize most of the clubs he plays.
Circus Mind, fronted by veteran keyboardist/ringleader Mark Rechler, will celebrate its 20th anniversary with the release of new album Joy Machine this May. The new LP, the band’s third, will have a similar feel to “Are You Ready?”—a perfect synthesis of retro ’70s funk, New Orleans swamp rock, and Beatles-esque pop—and will feature guest appearances by Scott Metzger, Ivan Neville, Big Sam, Marc Ribot, and more.

In 2020, Mark Rechler’s Falling Water conducted a fundraising campaign in conjunction with new single “When We Will Be Saved”. Rechler pledged to donate a portion of proceeds raised in the single’s first month to the PLUS1 COVID-19 Relief Fund—which benefits organizations like Sweet Relief, MusiCares, Center for Disaster Philanthropy, World Central Kitchen, Partners In Health, Trans Lifeline and Backline—to support communities most at risk from the pandemic. The efforts raised over $10,000.
